Let's get this started - $100 Room Challenge

I've been thinking about starting this blog for a while now, but needed something to really get me started. I'm a huge procrastinator so I figured I needed some project to launch the blog, and keep me on track. I've loved following the One Room Challenges where bloggers renovate or update a room in a six week window. I figured a project like that would provide me with the impetus needed to start -and finish!- a project, and get me into the groove of blogging regularly. So that being said, I planned to launch the blog in the spring .... until I realized one snag in my plan.

This spring our family will be welcoming its newest member! I'm due with our second child right smack dab in the middle of the next One Room Challenge!

Once I realized that, I realized how improbable (read impossible) it would be to do the challenge, which is a major undertaking, this Spring. Then I heard about a group of bloggers who were refreshing one room for $100 over one month. The initiative was the inspiration of Erin at Lemons Lavender and Laundry, and I was so excited when I heard about it. That's when I knew I had found my launch project, and I knew exactly which room to tackle!

We have a beautiful entryway in our home that we have started to decorate, but never seem to get around to finishing. I have even printed out three great printables that I want to hang in there, framed and all, but do you think that we've actually ever gotten around to hanging them? Nope. They have been leaning against the wall, sitting on the floor for months! So for this project, I'm hoping to do a few things.

Nevermind the boots hanging out there. Do you like the papers taped to the wall testing out the location for our frames?

(We even have random papers hanging on the wall to 'test' where we want to hang the prints!)

First off, we are going to finish the frames (they are mismatched and need to be freshened up), and actually put them up. Next, make a bench with some room for storage underneath. I found a great tutorial on Pinterest here that I can wait to try out. After that, I want to make a little shelf with hooks for underneath our mirror. I bought some hooks a while back, but, again, never got around to putting them up. Lastly, I'd love to spruce up the rug we've got in the entryway. I love it for its usefulness. It's rugged, it doesn't slip, and it fits perfectly. It is not, however, very pretty. The plan is to give it a little face lift with some paint. I'm looking at painting a little bit of a pattern on it, which will hopefully help....or ruin it....I guess we will have to wait and see. Pins like this one, however, give me hope that it will all work out!

So there you have it! I'm in town today for appointments and errands and plan to check out a few places for the under the bench storage options, pick up some spray paint and stain, and hopefully get the lumber for the bench. Phew! Let the fun begin!

Have a look at all the other bloggers who are refreshing their spaces too. If you feel inspired to join to join us, please do so! I would love to see what you decide to do and how you accomplish it. You can link up with us here.

Hi!  I'm Cheryl,

and together with my husband and little boy, we are living the fortunate life on our newly acquired 34 acres of land.

I love beautiful things, whether in nature, people, or homes.  For better or worse, I'm a Pinterest mom, and I love trying out new projects to better our home and our homestead ... not to say they always work out, though!

Thanks for joining us on our journey of faith and love.  Here's hoping you enjoy following along with us as we have adventures...as well as misadventures...and maybe even find some inspiration for yourself along the way.
